The Ritz-Carlton Naples Neon Arcade transforms a traditional game room into an immersive, place-specific experience inspired by the natural beauty of coastal Florida. Flowing neon linework forms sea plants, fish, birds, and turtles that wrap across the walls and ceiling, creating a continuous underwater-like environment that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. The visual language blends classic arcade glow with regional character, giving the space a strong sense of identity unique to its location.
Designed to function across multiple age groups and times of day, the environment balances playful energy with refined atmosphere. Bright, eye-catching graphics draw in kids and teens during the day, while the cohesive lighting and bold focal points create a vibrant social setting for adults at night, especially during televised sporting events. The result is a flexible entertainment space that feels lively, memorable, and distinctly Floridian.
The Challenge
The space needed to be dark enough for neon elements to glow vividly without muting the bright, colorful illustrations that define the environment. At the same time, the design had to resonate with a wide audience, creating a setting that felt exciting and approachable for kids while still refined and engaging for adults. Balancing mood lighting, color visibility, and cross-generational appeal within one cohesive visual language posed a significant design challenge.
The Solution
Deep purple walls were introduced to create a moody backdrop that enhances the neon glow while providing strong contrast for the saturated coastal graphics. The illustrations were crafted in a polished, professional style that avoids overly childish aesthetics while retaining a playful, bubbly energy that kids can enjoy. Added lounge tables and large TV screens showing sports help the space transition seamlessly into an adult-friendly social setting at night, allowing cocktails and spectating to coexist naturally with arcade play.
Foundations of the Visual Language
The early design phase focused on establishing a repeatable graphic system that could flow continuously around the arcade. With the typeface selected by the client, development centered on creating simple, iconic forms that could be easily scaled, illuminated, and reused across walls, ceilings, and transitions without losing clarity.
Each element was built with intentional geometry to keep the visuals clean and cohesive. The palm tree, in particular, was constructed from repeating circular arcs to form the curves of the trunk and fronds, creating a smooth, rhythmic silhouette that echoes the rounded neon tubing used in fabrication. These modular shapes allow the graphics to repeat and connect seamlessly throughout the space, forming a unified coastal motif that feels both structured and playful.

Brand Kit
Neuland Black is used for bold, character-rich headings and titles, giving the space a playful, retro arcade personality, while Montserrat Bold provides clean, highly legible supporting text and wayfinding. This pairing balances expressive display lettering with modern readability, ensuring graphics feel fun and energetic without becoming difficult to read at scale.
The paint colors are intentionally darker and more muted to create depth and a moody backdrop that allows the neon elements to glow at full intensity. The neon palette is bright, saturated, and high-contrast, inspired by Florida sunsets, tropical waters, and native wildlife, ensuring the illustrations pop vividly while guiding the eye around the space without visual clutter.

Final Wall Designs
The completed wall compositions translate the core graphic system into large-scale, immersive environments that wrap the arcade in continuous motion and color. Flowing neon bands connect palm trees, sunsets, citrus, turtles, and alligators into one cohesive visual narrative inspired by coastal Florida. Each wall is designed to frame arcade machines, doors, and screens without interruption, allowing the graphics to weave around architectural elements and maintain a seamless rhythm throughout the space.
Layered shapes, bold outlines, and high-contrast color pairings ensure every illustration remains readable against the dark purple backdrop while still glowing with playful energy. Repeating curves and directional lines guide the eye across the room, visually linking zones together and reinforcing the arcade’s identity from every angle. The result is a set of walls that function both as striking standalone scenes and as parts of a unified, neon-lit landscape.

Real-Scale Visualization & Lighting Tests
Full-scale mockups of the walls and ceiling were composited into the actual space to accurately preview proportion, placement, and visual impact. Simulated neon glow was added to each element to study how light would spread across the dark surfaces, ensuring the graphics would feel vibrant without overpowering the room.
These realistic previews made it possible to fine-tune brightness, color balance, and sightlines before fabrication, confirming that the ceiling feature would act as a luminous focal point while the wall graphics created a continuous, immersive wrap around the arcade. Testing the glow in context ensured the final installation would read clearly from every angle and deliver the intended energetic, atmospheric effect.

Fabrication and Neon Installation
Each graphic element was produced as an individual, precision-cut piece to ensure clean edges, accurate layering, and seamless alignment once installed on site. The components were prepped, finished, and test-fit before neon tubing was mounted, allowing every curve and contour to match the intended geometry of the original designs.
Neon lighting was then carefully integrated into the routed channels of each piece, transforming flat graphics into dimensional, glowing forms. This modular fabrication approach made installation efficient and repeatable, enabling the vibrant Florida-inspired visuals to be assembled on the walls and ceiling as a cohesive, illuminated system.

On-Site Installation & Electrical Integration
With fabrication complete, each element was carefully mounted in sequence to maintain precise alignment across walls and ceiling. Templates and reference marks ensured the layered pieces locked together seamlessly, preserving the intended flow of lines and spacing from the original scaled mockups.
Electrical connections were then routed and integrated behind the panels, linking individual neon segments into a coordinated lighting system. Once powered, the pieces came to life as a unified installation, transforming the room into a fully immersive, glowing environment true to the original design vision.

Final Environment: A Luminous Florida Playground
With the neon fully installed and illuminated, the arcade transforms into an immersive, glowing landscape that celebrates the spirit of Old Florida through light, color, and motion. Vibrant sea creatures, citrus motifs, and flowing wave lines wrap the room in continuous energy, while the custom ceiling feature radiates a warm halo that ties the entire space together. Against the deep purple walls, every neon element pops with high contrast, creating a lively atmosphere that feels both playful and polished. As kids gather around the games and families move through the space, the layered lighting and graphics guide the eye around the room, making the arcade feel dynamic from every angle and at every moment of the day.

Conclusion
The completed arcade delivers a cohesive, high-impact environment that balances nostalgia, regional identity, and contemporary entertainment. By combining intentional illustration, structured visual systems, and carefully controlled lighting, the space successfully supports both daytime family play and evening adult use without feeling disconnected or overly themed. Every element, from wall graphics to the central ceiling installation, works together to create a unified experience that is legible from afar, engaging up close, and durable enough for constant interaction. The result is a vibrant destination that transforms a simple game room into a memorable, place-specific attraction.
Final Thoughts
This project demonstrates how thoughtful color contrast, disciplined geometry, and layered neon can shape atmosphere as much as the games themselves. A restrained base palette allows the illuminated elements to take center stage, while versatile, professional illustrations ensure the space appeals equally to kids, teens, and adults. Integrating seating, screens, and social areas between the games encourages people to linger rather than pass through. Together, these choices prove that immersive theming can be both fun and refined, creating an arcade that feels timeless, energetic, and unmistakably Floridian.
